Phantom Pop- Wild Party

Wild Party is an Indie Rock band out of San Antonio, Texas. The band was originally formed by junior high friends Lincoln Kreifels (lead singer) and Lucas Hughes (guitarists), they toured with The Wombats, then they took a 2 year hiatus, and after they reformed with the addition of Ethan Kaufmann (bass) and, Lincoln's brother, Jake Kreifels (drums). They released this album about one year after their addition.

Wild Party has described their sound as many different thing over the years, my favorite being 'face-melting pop music', but it is mostly just indie rock. It's kind of surprising, at least to me it was, to hear their music and then find out they're from Texas. Not to be stereotypical, but you don't usually hear a lot of hipster rock coming out of the Lone Star State, but these guys are good at it. They know what they want to do with their music and they execute it to perfection.

Wild Party has strong backing drumbeats, which make the music more aggressive and bring out the emotion they are trying to convey. They guitar and bass work together to create a bridge between the hardcore drum and the mellow vocals. Linc has a very unique voice that works in perfectly with the sound that WP is going for. Each song's lyrics are telling a story and they each show their immaturity and confusion (that's not a bad thing). Their personality shows through the song; both with the lyrics and instrumental work.

In the song "Chasing Honey", there are a lot of tone changes throughout the song. It goes through phases; one second it's loud with a lot of drum, then the next it's just a guitar and Linc's voice. You can hear the range this group of guys has in the types of music they can play. My favorite lines come right at the beginning of the song: "Some parts of my brain are probably stuck sleeping; I wish I could tell, but I'm probably still sleeping. I look to the window, I look through your eyes; I can see my reflection, but I can't close the blinds". I just love the simplicity and slight confusion you feel when you hear those lines. To me, this song is about stepping back, taking a look at your life, and just living it to the fullest, not worrying about what anybody else does.

This band has a very bright future ahead of them. They are going to be touring with The Griswolds coming up very soon. Wild Party has a loyal following that is constantly growing. When I listen to their songs I hear something that I haven't really heard before, but I think that very soon everyone will hear Wild Party they will just skyrocket up the charts. Until that does happen, they are indie-rock fans' little secret and I absolutely love it.
