Matt & Kim are not only a musical duo, but they are also a romantic couple. They are from Brooklyn, New York and they make indie and electronic music that you can't help, but move to. Kim Schifino plays the drums and does some backing vocals on certain tracks, while Matt Johnson plays the keyboard, along with the occasional guitar. They have received a lot of recognition for their most recent single "Get It", but they are also well-known in the alternative music scene for their songs "Daylight", "Cameras", and "Let's Go".
I saw them on the fourth of May at The Depot in downtown Salt Lake City. The show was amazing, and lived up to every single expectation I had. I read a lot of things on Twitter from other people who had seen them that it was the best show they'd ever been to, so it had a lot to live up to. Before the concert there was a very long line, and I found out once I looked at the marquee when we arrived that it was a sold out show.
Waters was supposed to open, but they couldn't play because their lead sing, Van, was sick and had no voice. That really made me sad, because they are a very talented band; I had also heard they were amazing live. They seem to have such an energetic and unique stage presence. I was looking forward to having the opportunity to see them live, but alas. They also were unable to play at their next show in Colorado, but Van was able to recover and continue for the remainder of the tour.

Matt and Kim are such amazing performers and, for lack of a better word, total badasses. They make their songs better with the energy and passion they bring onto the stage. There are only two of them, but they have more energy than almost any band I've ever seen. It was only them, their instruments, a banner hanging behind them, some balloons, and confetti poppers; they made it feel like they were entertaining a stadium full of fans rather than a sold out show in a small venue.

Everyone in the crowd was so into everything they did. Even people who I could tell didn't really know a lot of their songs were dancing, jumping, and screaming along with everybody else. It was by far the most I've sweat at a concert and it was made enjoyable by the fact that everyone around me was in the same boat and we were all just going through it together. Everyone was so polite and loving in a way I've never felt in such a mosh-like environment. I started out in about the third row, was moved to almost the very back, and got back to the fourth row; all of it was just natural movement that came with the jumping and dancing of everyone surrounding me.

After the show I waited by Matt and Kim's tour bus with my older brother, Brendan, for about two hours for the opportunity to meet them. We were just about to give up, along with a lot of the approximately 20 other people out there with us, when Matt came out. He thank us for waiting for so long and told us that Kim was showering and would be out shortly, then he stuck around for about 45 minutes just talking to fans, signing autographs, and taking pictures. He told us that the crowd was jumping so much it was causing the lights on the first floor to flicker on and off (The Depot is a two story venue and the main stage in on the second floor and has also has balcony to watch the show). When he took pictures with me and signed the vinyl I bought (Lightning Remixes with Adam & Eve inspired cover art) he also showed me that you could take off a sticker covering Kim's boobs, and then you has a piece of pornography along with an album. Kim came out about 45 minutes after Matt went back inside and she was just as polite. I ended up getting two pictures with her: one that's just a normal picture and another where I have my hand on her ass. It was a pretty fabulous night.
Not only do Matt & Kim put on an amazing show, but they also are amazing people. They didn't have to talk to fans, they certainly didn't have to stay as long as they did, and Kim didn't have to let me take of picture with my hand on her ass; but they did! If you ever have the opportunity to see them live, do it! They're one of the best bands I've seen live based on performance alone, and they have such great and unique songs that no matter what type of music you enjoy, you'll find a way to have some fun.
