Future Hearts- All Time Low

When I was younger I had an unbelievable crush on really all of the members of All Time Low; at that time I knew about two other girls who actually had any idea who they even were. Now, much to my immense happiness, I have friends, both in person and over the internet (mostly the internet, if I'm being totally honest), who share my passion for the music these four talented hunks create. The band is made up of Alex (lead singer and rhythm guitar), Jack (lead guitar and back up vocals), Zack (bassist and back up vocals, and Rian (drums). They are a pop punk band out of Baltimore, Maryland.

Their most recent album, Future Hearts, was released at the beginning of this month; I personally was very pleased and somewhat surprised by the quality of music featured on this album. Don't get me wrong, I love some good old punk rock as much as the next girl, but I wasn't sure that ATL would keep their sound that made me fall in love with them; let's just say they left me very pleasantly surprised.

The whole album features strong rhythms and melodies, along with the heartfelt and lovingly-angry lyrics that leave me completely in awe. There is a strong backing drumbeat that keeps the music more pumped up and exciting. The guitars add a new layer to the music that adds to the emotion and melody of each and every song. There are also moments that you feel the mellow and more acoustic sound that is featured on some of the tracks, that makes me both want to belt out the lyrics speeding down the highway, windows down; but also whisper each beautiful word to myself as I lay on my bed and cry.

One of my personal favorite songs on this album is Tidal Waves (ft. Mark Hoppus); this may be partially because of the fact that I'm a very unashamed and passionate Blink-182 fan, but nonetheless it is an incredible song and has more bass that what is usually found in All Time Low's music, probably due to the addition of Blink-182's well known bassist. My favorite part of this track, comes right at the beginning of the song: "Falling on my face again, so I know I'm right on track. It's hard for me to make amends, when you stab me in the back. Sailing on to another sorry shore, talking shit. Say I'm your filthy little, filthy little. Like I just happen to be in the right place, right time. Just settle down". Hoppus begins singing after the first chorus, and it adds a new layer and edge to the song; though, to me, it sounds like it takes a detour into a Blink-182 song and not a Mark from Blink- 182 singing on ATL's song. Overall, this song has beautiful lyrics, meaning, and instrumentals.

This album makes me excited to see what else All Time Low has planned for the future. I liked every song in this album; each for a slightly different reason. One thing I love about this album is that each song sounds different from each other, while still keeping the band's identity present on each track; you are taken through a tour of the many different ways these talented guys can play three instruments. This album is one that I would be happy to listen to on repeat for hours on end.
